The Guangxi Key Laboratory of Multi-Source Information Mining and Security was established in 2006, approved as a Guangxi Key Laboratory Cultivation Base in 2010, and officially designated as a Guangxi Key Laboratory in 2012. The laboratory is directed by Professor Zhang Shichao, a national high-level overseas returnee, and has appointed Professor He Jifeng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as the Chairman of the Academic Committee, along with Professor Xu Zongben, another academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Jin Zhi, a "Distinguished Young Scholar" from Peking University, as Vice-Chairmen of the Academic Committee.
Gudied by its mission of "addressing national strategic needs, targeting international academic frontiers, and serving Guangxi's economic development," the laboratory is committed to research on the fundamental theories and core technologies of multi-source information mining and security, aiming to become a renowned base for scientific research, technological innovation, and talent cultivation both domestically and internationally. The laboratory focuses on multi-source data mining, distributed data security, and intelligent multimedia information processing, conducting distinctive research in data processing for the ASEAN region and local areas.
Over the past five years, the laboratory has led and undertaken 45 national-level research projects, including the National 863 Program, 973 Program, National Major Science and Technology Projects, and National Natural Science Foundation projects. It has also undertaken more than 10 significant provincial and ministerial-level projects, such as the Guangxi "Bagui Scholars" Innovation Team Project, Guangxi Natural Science Foundation Innovation Research Team Project, Guangxi Science and Technology Base and Talent Special Project, and Guangxi Natural Science Foundation Key Project. The laboratory has published over 100 SCI-indexed papers in domestic and international academic journals, including more than 10 ESI highly cited papers, CCF-recommended A-class papers, and papers in **SCI Q1 journals**. Its system development and applications have played a vital role in local social and economic development. In recent years, the laboratory has nurtured several young academic leaders, including national-level leading talents, Guangxi Outstanding Youth, and Guangxi Ten Hundred Thousand Talents Project scholars. It has also cultivated a group of outstanding young students who have received awards such as the China Youth Science and Technology Award and Best Paper Awards at international conferences. Many of these talents have joined key enterprises and government departments, making significant contributions to society. With the support of the laboratory platform, the Software Engineering discipline was granted the first-level doctoral degree conferral authority in 2018 and was approved for the construction of a Guangxi "First-Class Discipline," marking a historic breakthrough in the discipline's development.
The laboratory has formed a well-structured and innovative research team led by renowned scholars, with young backbone researchers as the main body and high-quality graduate students as the driving force. The team includes one national-level talent, several influential scholars such as the Ministry of Education's New Century Excellent Talents, Guangxi "Bagui Scholars," Guangxi "Outstanding Youth," and Guangxi "Ten Hundred Thousand Talents," and possesses the Guangxi "Bagui Scholars" Innovation Platform and the Guangxi Natural Science Foundation Innovation Research Team. The laboratory has successfully hosted multiple international and national academic conferences and has established stable collaborative relationships with scholars from renowned universities and research institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and other countries and regions.
