The Key Lab of Education Blockchain and Intelligent Technology, Ministry of Education, was approved for construction in March 2023. The laboratory aims to respond to national strategic needs and address the practical application demands of international education in the ASEAN region and multi-ethnic integrated education sectors. The lab’s mission is to tackle key scientific and technological challenges in areas such as educational big data governance, educational data intelligence, and educational intelligent technology. The laboratory seeks to build a blockchain-based service platform that facilitates secure sharing and governance of cross-border educational big data across ASEAN countries and various multi-ethnic regions. This initiative aims to promote the deep integration of intelligent technologies with mainstream educational practices, offering technical support for joint international education in ASEAN and the intelligent development of multi-ethnic regions, thereby contributing to China-ASEAN cooperation and the Belt and Road initiative.
The laboratory has established innovative and distinctive research directions in multi-source data mining, data security, blockchain, multimedia intelligent processing, and educational laws and technologies. It has achieved significant practical application benefits in the fields of intelligent education and blockchain technology. In recent years, the laboratory has led and undertaken key projects under the National Natural Science Foundation Joint Fund, projects under the National Natural Science Foundation (general, youth, and regional), projects under the National Social Science Foundation (general, youth, and western), sub-projects of the National Key R&D Program, the Guangxi Bagui Scholars Innovation Team Project, projects under the Guangxi Natural Science Foundation (key, outstanding youth, general, and youth), the Guangxi Education Science 13th Five-Year Plan 2020 Annual Entrusted Key Project, the Guangxi Philosophy and Social Science Planning Research Project, as well as a number of prefectural and departmental-level projects and horizontal R&D projects. In total, the laboratory has undertaken 80 national-level projects and 71 provincial and ministerial-level projects, with a total project funding of over 73 million yuan and an average annual research funding of over 14 million yuan.
The laboratory boasts a well-structured and innovative research team, consisting of 60 permanent members, including 32 doctoral supervisors, 39 with senior professional titles, and 12 with associate senior professional titles. Through cultivation and recruitment, the laboratory has formed an innovative team led by several nationally renowned scholars. The team includes one national Ten Thousand Talents Plan leading scientific and technological innovation talent, one Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor, and two national high-level innovative talents. It also includes more than 10 provincial and ministerial-level talents such as Guangxi Bagui Scholars, Guangxi Outstanding Youth, and Guangxi Ten Hundred Thousand Talents Project experts, who have significant academic influence in the fields of blockchain, artificial intelligence, big data, education, and psychology. A group of young and middle-aged research backbone members graduated from prestigious universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and China, with 12 holding overseas doctoral degrees.
